The Mansion, formerly The Paxton, located at the foot of Sydenham Hill is a large Victorian pub re-designed with a fresh modern interior feel. The Mansion has the benefit of a huge garden perfect for long Sunday afternoon BBQ’s in the summer. The emphasis is on food with a core British menu that doesn’t change, serving pub classics such as fish and chips (our own version obviously!), sausage and mash a range of homemade pies. The most popular dish is the 8oz Mansion Burger made with 100% beef (Devon Red or Black Angus), nothing else just our own mix of mince, perfectly balanced.
Our a la carte menus change with the season and depend on availability of the freshest produce.
Gloucester Old Spot pork pies made daily for the bar served with our own chutneys and piccalilli, slow roasted pork belly with tiger prawns and aged Black Angus or Devon red steaks served with Bearnaise .
Day-boat landed fish, oysters fresh from Colchester, our own caught wild trout: home-smoked, potted or beetroot cured.
A rich chocolate pot, an apple crumble with custard or a forced rhubarb posset for pudding.
For mornings and afternoons, a selection of coffee and tea served with homemade cakes in the garden in summer or in the sitting room on comfy sofas by the fire.
We have a number of well chosen suppliers working direct with farms and local butchers alike. We aim, where possible to ensure everything is ethically and sustainably sourced. |
